Structural Failures

NRC can provide opinions as to cause of failure for many types of structures. We have examined trusses, swimming pools, basement walls, grain elevators, highway bridges, and many other constructions where loading, impact, or end of life has caused some type failure. This 150-year old church truss failed catastrophically.

Roofing Systems

NRC has many years of experience investigating and specifying roofing systems. We can evaluate roofs ranging from asphalt shingles to metal panels to slate to single-ply. This roof is a Fiberglas asphalt shingle installed with nails. Unfortunately, the nails were positioned incorrectly, causing the shingles to begin sliding over time. 

 

Siding, Masonry, And Building Envelope Systems

NRC can investigate sources of moisture infiltration, efflorescence, and structural concerns. We have examined wall cladding systems ranging from cultured stone to brick veneer walls to historic multiple-wythe masonry construction. This cultured stone system has inadequate flashing, allowing water to enter behind the veneer. 

Historical Restoration and Preservation

NRC has the ability to analyze and repair unique and/or historic structures. Unlike new construction, where systems are well-understood, historic buildings require fresh thinking to understand their intended functions and maintenance needs. This historic courthouse has a thin cladding of locally-quarried stone over brick backing, posing unique challenges for preservation.
